Epping Forest: Unlocking the Potential of a 1980s Home

Our brief was to reimagine a typical 1980s vernacular property, transforming it into a light-filled, modern family home. We converted the existing garage into a practical utility room and extended the rear of the house to create a spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area — replacing the original, compartmentalised layout.

The new extension introduced volume, natural light, and character, with feature ceilings and a seamless connection to the garden. A sloping site and level changes presented design challenges, which we turned into opportunities — incorporating patio doors and stepped terraces that open the home to the outdoors, ideal for both relaxed breakfasts and evening entertaining.

The full refurbishment included redecoration throughout, upgrades to bedrooms and bathrooms, and a bespoke ensuite for the master bedroom. We worked closely with the client and their chosen contractor, providing guidance through design development, planning, and cost management.
