Australia House: Preserving Heritage, Enabling the Future

2023 - Current
Architect, Principal Designer

Australia House is a prominent Grade II listed building located at the junction of the Strand and Aldwych. Built in 1918, it houses the Australian High Commission and represents the enduring relationship between the British and Australian Governments.

The building is architecturally and historically significant, with fine interiors, including Australian-sourced stone and timber, decorative metalwork, frescos and panelling. It rises eight floors above ground with two basement levels and is constructed with a steel frame and clad in Portland stone.

We are appointed to modernise, upgrade, and preserve this historic building, including full replacement of MEP services, structural and waterproofing repairs, and upgrades to fire safety, accessibility, and acoustics. A key objective is to ensure the building’s long-term sustainability and flexibility, upgrading the ground floor and Exhibition Hall as multifunctional spaces for exhibitions, conferences, and public events, whilst balancing security, egress, and operational needs.
